Atlas Privacy Policy

The short version
Atlas collects no data. Everything you put into Atlas — notes, documents, health data, calendar events, contacts, locations, conversations — is stored and processed only on your device. Atlas has no servers, no accounts, no analytics, and no advertising. We cannot see your data, sell your data, or lose your data, because we never have it.
What Atlas stores, and where
Atlas keeps your information in an encrypted local database inside the app's private container on your device, protected by iOS data protection (your device passcode). This includes:
- Notes and documents you import or share into Atlas
- Text recognized from images and PDFs you import
- Calendar events, contacts, and Apple Health data you choose to sync
- Places you visit, if you enable visit logging (off by default)
- Your conversations with the assistant
All of it stays on your device. Deleting a document in Atlas deletes it and everything derived from it (search index entries, graph links). Deleting the app deletes everything.
The one network connection
Atlas's assistant runs on an AI model that executes entirely on your device. The app makes exactly one kind of network request: downloading that model file (about 3 GB, one time, over HTTPS from huggingface.co) when you choose to install it. No personal data is sent with this request. Atlas makes no other network connections of any kind — this property is enforced by automated tests in our build process, not just promised.
Apple Health
If you grant access, Atlas reads workout and health metrics (such as heart rate, sleep, VO₂max, steps) from Apple Health to answer your questions and show trends. Health data:
- is processed and stored only on your device,
- is never transmitted anywhere, to us or to anyone else,
- is never used for advertising, marketing, or any purpose other than showing you your own information in the app,
- is never shared with the iOS system search index or any app extension,
- can be disconnected at any time in Settings → Health, and is deleted with the documents that contain it.
We do not use health data for research. We never disclose health data to third parties — we could not even if asked, because it never leaves your device.
Location
If you turn on visit logging (off by default), Atlas uses Apple's low-power visit detection to note places you spend time — never continuous GPS tracking. Locations are rounded to roughly city-block precision, stored only on your device, never sent anywhere, and never shared with system search. Turning the feature off stops collection immediately; recorded visits can be deleted like any document.
Contacts, Calendar, Microphone, Speech
- Contacts / Calendar: read only when you sync them, stored only on device, used only to link people and events into your personal index.
- Microphone / Speech recognition: voice capture uses Apple's on-device speech recognition exclusively. Atlas refuses to run dictation if on-device recognition is unavailable — your audio is never sent to a server, including Apple's.
What we collect about you
Nothing. Atlas contains no analytics, no crash reporting SDK, no advertising identifiers, no fingerprinting, and no account system. We receive no telemetry from the app. If you contact us for support, we see only what you choose to send us.
Third parties
The AI model (Gemma) is created by Google and downloaded from Hugging Face's content delivery network; its license notice is shown in the app. Neither Google nor Hugging Face receives any of your personal data from Atlas — the download is the delivery of a file to your device, nothing more. Standard web-server logs (IP address, request time) may be generated by Hugging Face when the file is downloaded, governed by their privacy policy.
Children
Atlas is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone — it does not collect information at all.
Changes
If a future version of Atlas ever changes any of the above — in particular, if it ever transmits any user data anywhere — this policy will be updated first, the change will be called out in the App Store release notes, and the relevant feature will be opt-in.
Your rights
Because all data is on your device and none is held by us, access, export, correction, and deletion are all in your hands directly: your data is in the app, and deleting the app removes all of it. For questions: bxntan@gmail.com.
